CNN 'Fact Check' on Transgender Mice Reversed
CNN's live fact check of Trump's address to Congress said he falsely claimed that $8 million had been spent on making mice transgender.

The initial verdict labeled a Trump claim false when the underlying grants existed.
What was reported
CNN's live fact check of Trump's address to Congress said he falsely claimed that $8 million had been spent on making mice transgender.
What actually happened
Federal grants had in fact funded studies that gave cross-sex hormone treatments to lab animals, and the White House published a list of them. A day later, CNN changed its verdict from 'false' to 'needs context.' It added a correction saying the earlier version wrongly called Trump's claim false. The revised item still noted that the research studied human health effects and was not about making mice transgender, and that the dollar total was disputed.
The proof
CNN's own appended correction and the NIH grant records the White House cited.
