It suggested Trump was personally indebted to a Chinese state bank while setting China policy.

What was reported

Politico reported that Trump, through a Manhattan building partnership, owed tens of millions of dollars to state-owned Bank of China on a loan coming due in 2022.

What actually happened

Politico had not contacted the bank before publishing. Bank of China USA then said it had sold off, or securitized, the debt soon after the 2012 refinancing and had no current financial interest in any Trump Organization property. Politico published an editor's note on April 27 and revised the story.

The proof

Politico's editor's note relaying the bank's statement that it held no current interest in the loan.
