CNN on candidates' health: privacy, then a Trump check-up

■ The pieces
- CNN: "Should candidates' health histories stay private?" — Sandee LaMotte (2016-09-12)https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/12/health/presidential-candidate-state-of-health
- CNN: "What we know about Donald Trump's health" — Jacqueline Howard (2016-09-15)https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/15/health/donald-trump-health/index.html
■ What they show
The day after Hillary Clinton stumbled at a 9/11 memorial and her pneumonia was revealed, a CNN Health piece asked how much the public is owed about a candidate's medical history and quoted a bioethicist who said a candidate may keep it private unless they expect to die in office. Three days later CNN Health published a rundown of what was known about Donald Trump's health after he released results from a physical.
■ The other side
The Sept. 12 piece is a health-desk explainer that quotes experts on both sides and also covers Trump's thin disclosures, rather than an editorial; the Sept. 15 piece followed Trump's own release of new medical details.
Who it helped: DemocratsFramed candidate health differently as Clinton's health became a story.
