- CNN: "Trump's budget to include paid family leave" — Dan Merica (2017-05-22)https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/22/politics/trump-paid-leave-ivanka/index.html
- CNN Opinion: "How paid family leave hurts women (Opinion)" — Vanessa Brown Calder (2017-05-30)https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/30/opinions/trump-budget-paid-leave-calder-opinion/index.html
■ What they show
In April 2017 a CNN opinion piece argued that every worker should have access to paid family leave. In May CNN reported that Trump's budget would propose paid parental leave, and eight days later CNN published an opinion piece arguing that paid leave mandates can backfire on women's hiring and pay.
■ The other side
The two opinion pieces were written by outside authors with opposing views (Heather Boushey and Katie Bethell vs. the Cato Institute's Vanessa Brown Calder), and the Washington Examiner's Becket Adams argued the sequence showed a range of opinion, not a reversal.
Who it helped: DemocratsOpinion shifted after Trump adopted the policy.
