The inflated figures suggested Trump's sons were profiting heavily from defense contracts.

What was reported

ABC reported that 1789 Capital, the firm linked to Donald Trump Jr., had taken a major stake in Anduril through a $2.5 billion investment. It also said companies backed by Trump's sons had won billions in Pentagon contracts since the election.

What actually happened

Anduril founder Palmer Luckey and 1789 Capital said the firm had invested about $50 million. The $2.5 billion was the total Anduril raised. ABC took the story down within a day without explanation. Two days later it reposted a rewritten version under a new headline and a staff byline, with a correction saying the original had errors in describing investments, government contracts and the order of events.

The proof

ABC's own correction on the revised story and the firm's disclosed investment figure.
