What was reported

A New York Post cover story said copies of Vice President Harris's children's book were being handed out in welcome kits to migrant children at a Long Beach, California shelter.

What actually happened

One copy had been donated to the shelter during a community book drive; no government agency bought the book and there were no kits containing it. After the claim spread widely, the Post removed the welcome-kit claim on April 27 and added an editor's note, and it also pulled and reissued a related story. The reporter resigned, saying she had been ordered to write the story, which the Post denied.

The proof

The Post's own editor's note and revised story, plus Long Beach officials' account that a single copy was donated.
