What actually happened
Fox News and the White House disputed the account, and the White House counsel demanded retractions of this and two other Politico stories. Politico rejected the demand and stood by the other two stories. It did correct this one: the revised version says Wiles gave positive reinforcement for the interview but did not directly take part in booking it.
