What was reported

House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff told CNN's State of the Union that evidence of Trump-Russia collusion was 'in plain sight,' a line he had used since late 2017.

What actually happened

Schiff separated public evidence of collusion from proof of a criminal conspiracy beyond reasonable doubt. Outlets nevertheless widely repeated the line as settling the question. Five weeks later, Mueller reported that the investigation did not establish a conspiracy or coordination with the Russian government. The report did document many campaign contacts with Russians, including the Trump Tower meeting. The 'plain sight' framing described real contacts but presented a conclusion the investigation did not reach.

The proof

Mueller's report states the investigation did not establish that campaign members conspired or coordinated with the Russian government.
