Double Standard
VICE: women's body shaming vs. an emoji to mock men

■ The pieces
- VICE: "Women Talk About the Worst Body Shaming They've Experienced" — Melpomeni Maragkidou (2018-04-16)https://www.vice.com/en/article/women-talk-about-the-worst-body-shaming-theyve-experienced/
- VICE: "Finally, a New Emoji to Mock Men" — VICE Staff (2019-02-05)https://www.vice.com/en/article/finally-a-new-emoji-to-mock-men-pinching-hand-emoji-update/
■ What they show
In 2018 VICE ran first-person accounts from women about the most hurtful comments made about their bodies. In 2019 a VICE item welcomed the new "pinching hand" emoji as a way to make fun of men, a reference to jokes about penis size.
■ The other side
The pieces came from different VICE teams (the body-shaming piece is credited to Melpomeni Maragkidou, the emoji item to VICE staff), and the second is a tongue-in-cheek note on an emoji update.
Who it helped: Neither partyCultural commentary, no party claim.
