Fox Hosts Air Dominion and Smartmatic Vote-Rigging Claims

From November 2020, Fox hosts including Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs, Jeanine Pirro and others aired and amplified claims that Dominion and Smartmatic voting technology was used to rig the presidential election.

Who it helped: Republicans

The claims served President Trump's narrative that the 2020 election was stolen through rigged machines.

What was reported

From November 2020, Fox hosts including Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs, Jeanine Pirro and others aired and amplified claims that Dominion and Smartmatic voting technology was used to rig the presidential election.

What actually happened

After Smartmatic sent legal demand letters, Fox Business and Fox News aired a rebuttal segment with an election-technology expert on Dobbs', Bartiromo's and Pirro's shows on December 18 to 20, 2020. In the Dominion suit, a Delaware judge ruled in March 2023 that none of the challenged statements about Dominion were true, and Fox settled for $787.5 million in April 2023 while acknowledging the court's rulings.

The proof

The Delaware Superior Court's March 31, 2023 summary-judgment ruling found the Dominion statements false, and Fox's own December 2020 segments rebutted the Smartmatic claims.
