The story portrayed benefit recipients as threatening during a shutdown fight over SNAP funding.

What was reported

During the government shutdown, Fox News Digital published a story headlined 'SNAP Beneficiaries Threaten to Ransack Stores Over Government Shutdown', built on viral videos of supposed recipients.

What actually happened

At least some of the videos were AI-generated. Fox rewrote the story under a new headline saying AI videos of SNAP beneficiaries had gone viral, and removed references to on-air commentary. It added an editor's note saying the article had previously reported on apparently AI-generated videos without noting that.

The proof

Fox's own editor's note and rewritten headline.
