Who it helped: Republicans

The headline undercut a Moore accuser days before the Alabama Senate special election.

What was reported

Fox News' headline and tweet said Beverly Young Nelson admitted forging part of the yearbook inscription she had offered as evidence that Roy Moore knew her.

What actually happened

Nelson and attorney Gloria Allred said only that Nelson had added the date and place beneath Moore's signature; a handwriting expert they hired attributed the signature and inscription to Moore. Fox changed 'forged' to 'wrote,' removed the forgery language, added a note, and deleted its tweet, though Moore's campaign kept sharing it days before the Alabama special election.

The proof

Fox's own revised headline and appended editor's note, documented by HuffPost and CJR.
