YouTube permanently bans Dan Bongino's channels

On January 26, 2022, YouTube permanently terminated the channels of conservative commentator Dan Bongino. His main channel had been suspended for a week over a video questioning mask effectiveness. YouTube said he then circumvented that suspension by posting on a secondary channel.

The ban removed a prominent pro-Trump commentator from YouTube.

What the record shows

Axios reported that YouTube suspended Bongino's main channel on January 20, 2022, saying a mask video violated its COVID-19 misinformation policy. Bongino then posted a video to a secondary channel during the active strike. YouTube said that was 'circumventing our Terms of Service' and terminated the channels.

The other side

YouTube said the permanent ban was for evading an active suspension, a rule that applies to everyone, rather than for the mask content itself; Bongino's supporters said the underlying strike was over a legitimate debate about masks.
