What was reported
Critics said the reported attendance of Andrew Weissmann, a senior Mueller prosecutor, at Hillary Clinton's 2016 election-night party, plus his email praising Sally Yates, showed the probe was politically biased.
What actually happened
Weissmann, a former Enron Task Force director and the architect of the Manafort case, joined Mueller's team in June 2017. The Wall Street Journal reported in December 2017 that he attended Clinton's Javits Center party. A Judicial Watch FOIA release showed he had emailed Yates in January 2017 that he was 'so proud' of her refusal to defend the travel ban. The special counsel's office declined to comment and kept him on the team. In his July 2019 testimony, Mueller said he never asked staff their politics and called Weissmann one of the more talented attorneys he had worked with. No finding of misconduct by Weissmann in the Mueller probe has been made.
The proof
The party and email are documented facts. No inspector general or court has found that bias affected his Mueller work.
