Told readers a collusion case against Trump was already in hand.

What was reported

An opinion piece by Max Bergmann and Sam Berger argued that Mueller's recent filings showed the probe would implicate the president, his campaign and close associates in aiding Russia's conspiracy.

What actually happened

The piece ran the same day as Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort filings that cable outlets called damning. Three and a half months later, Mueller's report said the investigation did not establish that the campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government. The report did document many contacts between Trump associates and Russians. It made no conspiracy finding against Trump.

The proof

Mueller's report states the investigation did not establish a conspiracy or coordination with the Russian government.
