The claims served President Trump's narrative that the 2020 election was stolen.
What was reported
After Election Day, Newsmax aired repeated claims that Dominion and Smartmatic manipulated votes and that Dominion employee Eric Coomer rigged machines.
What actually happened
Facing Smartmatic's legal demand, Newsmax aired a clarification in December 2020 saying it had no evidence the companies were linked or manipulated votes, and that Smartmatic is a U.S. company not owned by Venezuela or tied to George Soros. In April 2021 it published a retraction and apology to Coomer. It later settled with Smartmatic in 2024 and Dominion in 2025.
