What was reported

In his September 2020 book, Weissmann argued the Mueller team should have investigated Trump's finances, subpoenaed Trump, and stated a conclusion on obstruction.

What actually happened

Weissmann told NPR's Fresh Air that the team chose not to cross Trump's 'red line' on his finances, a decision he called a mistake. He also faulted the decision not to subpoena Trump. Mueller issued a rare statement saying the criticism rested on 'incomplete information' and that he stood by his decisions and conclusions. The book offers one prosecutor's view of what more investigation might have found. Its claims about what that would have shown cannot be tested. In May 2020 Weissmann had told the Free Beacon he would leave MSNBC if he headlined a Biden fundraiser.

The proof
