Reddit Quarantines r/The_Donald Over Threats to Oregon Officials
In June 2019 Reddit quarantined r/The_Donald, its largest pro-Trump forum, citing posts encouraging violence against police and public officials in Oregon. The quarantine hid the forum behind a warning screen and removed it from search and recommendations.

The restriction fell on the largest pro-Trump community and was welcomed by its critics on the left.
What the record shows
CNN reported that Reddit told the forum's volunteer moderators it had 'observed repeated rule-breaking behavior' over several months. Reddit specifically cited 'encouragement of violence towards police officers and public officials in Oregon,' tied to a standoff in which Republican state senators left the state to block a climate bill vote. A Reddit spokesperson said content that encourages or threatens violence is not allowed. The quarantine was a step short of a ban and preceded the forum's removal a year later.
In their words
“posting content that encourages or threatens violence is not allowed on Reddit”— Reddit spokesperson · source
Supporters argued that a few rule-breaking posts in a huge community were used to penalize the whole forum, and that comparable posts in left-leaning communities were not treated the same way.
